I have very brittle nails and the top layer peels away from the bottom layer leaving a very weak nail and hence I'm unable to grow them to any length. I do use nail strengthener and ridge filler etc. BUT I take Venlafaxin (an anti-depressant) which has a side-effect of causing nails to peel and be brittle; I also take Cyproterone Acetate (Androcur) which has the same side effects. I am gradually reducing the Venlafaxin over time as my depression recedes but I am having to increase the Androcur; swings and roundabouts!
I wondered if anyone else found they had similar issues with their nails due to meds and if so if they had any good ideas on how to improve nail strength. Oh, I do take a hair and nails vitamin supplement too!
Thanks!
i think vitamen C and good
i think vitamen C and good hand lotion helps.
mine are okayish and my meds havent affected them.
Thanks for the suggestion
Thanks for that. I take 1000mg of Vitamin C every day without fail and use Nivea Q10 hand cream. It must be the Venlafaxin I'm guessing. I am gradually reducing that over the next 6 months as my depression is more under control so hopefully my nail strength will improve somewhat.
